Noe Valley Town Square

The Town Square is a recent piece of public land, and its file is mostly the paperwork of assembling one. In 2015 and 2016 the Board of Supervisors authorised the Recreation and Park Department to accept and expend three separate outside contributions for the project: a $743,543 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant from the State of California, a $567,039 Urban Greening for Sustainable Communities grant from the California Natural Resources Agency covering September 2015 to May 2017, and a grant-in-place from the San Francisco Parks Alliance of improvements valued at $450,000 — the last two heard together in the Budget and Finance Committee. The Board also had to change what the ground legally was, rezoning 3861 24th Street, Assessor's Block 6509 Lot 040, out of the 24th Street Neighborhood Commercial District and into Public and Open Space. The Arts Commission took the design through its own review, approving Phases 1 and 2 of the project and, separately, the art enrichment programme plan for the square. Since it opened the city has paid the Noe Valley Association $514,150 between 2021 and 2024 on the contract recorded against it.
