Tom Waddell Urban Health Clinic

Tom Waddell is the Tenderloin's clinic, and the department's records show it working at the hardest edge of public health. A 2004 committee paper describes a proposed McMillan Sobering Center run as a partnership between Tom Waddell and the nonprofit Chemical Awareness Treatment Services, co-located at that agency's drop-in centre so that people brought in by paramedics could be taken somewhere other than a hospital bed; the same paper places the clinic among three sites piloting office-based opiate addiction treatment, providing methadone maintenance and buprenorphine to ninety patients. The clinic moved in 2013.
